It’s too early for this.
WHAT IS THAT GRILLE? You took the sporty aggressive look of the FR-S’s face and made it look like a pissed off wide mouth bass. I really hope it’s just the angle the camera’s at.
It’s a shame about the grille too because the rest of the stuff they changed was for the better I think. Nicer looking wheels and certainly nicer looking headlights and tail lights.

And the trademark Toyota larger ass.
At least the changes they’ve made make it look that way.

Like the Celica taking inspiration from the mustang, the 86 goes to the 4th gen camaro school of looking like an angry fish.

Or most of the current Ford sedan lineup.

I’m going to blame the unflatteringly low camera angle until I get the chance to see one in person.

If they think a name change a styling refresh will make it sell better then there’s someone really deluded somewhere up the Toyota corporate chain.
Styling was never a problem. The name probably didn’t help, but probably didn’t hurt it overly much either.
What did hurt it was the cascade of review calling for more power. I get that it was a blank slate for tuners, but why let them get all the business when you could offer a turbocharged FA that you’ve already got . Hell, if that’s not federalised then apparently the good ol’ EJ bolts up nicely.
I do wonder if what actually kills dedicated RWD sports cars is mainly a lack of balls on the manufacturer's part. They had so much hype built up that they could easily have continued if they'd just put a turbo on. People would have gone nuts again, calling it the second coming of the Silvia etc.. More publicity. More sales. Maybe enough profits to warrant a second generation and then you're off!

Could be. I’m not too familiar with what it used to look like, but this does look bigger.
